History

The origins of the metric system lie in France in the 1790s. Metrics was needed to standardize the units of measurement as trade expanded throughout Europe.

Metrics have been used internationally in scientific fields for many years, however the real push to metrify the world only really began in the 1970s.

Many countries today have adopted the metric system. However the United States remains one of the last countries in the world to go fully metric.
